Relaxation music during labor?

Well, I am not nor am I intending to be pregnant at any point in the near future, and yet I have a strange fascination with this article.

I've always heard of women using music during labor to relax and help with the whatnot, but never saw an article for it before. And there's also this closely related article.

Personally, if I were to choose such music, I would go for this. Of course, this is nice, too.

And there's always Metallica.

(And I just want to point out, really quickly, that these songs are arguably more wholesome than a lot of pop artists that ten-year-olds listen to these days...)

I usually prefer to suffer in/with silence, but during labor with Six of Seven, my doula played Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, and I loved it. In fact, when I called Husband and told him to come to the hospital, I requested he stop somewhere and buy the CD (I was being ridiculous, but that's labor for ya.) I suppose hearing the CD took me back to my childhood, and subliminally redirected my thoughts.

...Simon and Garfunkel?...hmm...

...did he buy the CD?

Nope. Not only would he not have been able to find it in this somewhat tiny town, but I was in hard labor, and time was of the essence.

I auditioned for the solo of the verse "Sail on silver girl, sail on by. Your time has come to shine, all your dreams on their way" my senior year of the GT choir. I didn't get it. But I think we just did it as a group instead of making it a solo :)
