Recordings from 5/28/2011 Mass

The following two pieces feature Carissa on flute.  She's graduating with a Master's in conducting (correct me if that's the wrong degree name, Carissa) in two weeks, and although I'm very happy that she's escaping the School of Music servitude, I'm crushed that she's leaving.  It's been a pleasure and honor to have her in our choir.  Now she'll be conducting her own choir in a large parish.

When I first played this a few weeks ago, I thought "Hey!  I recognize this tune!"  Sure enough, my parents a few months back bought for me the sheet music for Variations Sur un Noël by Marcel Dupre.  "Now the Green Blade Rises" is based on the same French Noel.  Now the Green Blade Rises

Finally, the tune to Christ the Lord is Risen Again is really beautiful  The words aren't too bad, either. :-)

Did anyone notice that the air conditioning didn't run during the entire Mass?  I have a feeling that Fr. Pat turned the temp up for the benefit of our recording.  Or maybe it was a coincidence.  In either case, God bless him.

No one knew this one, although they started to get it after a few verses. I suppose everyone was expecting the other Christ the Lord is Risen Today.  Mary must be e*d*g*y, so this is the one for us:

MCK was called on to do the psalm at the last minute, since Stephen is ill (say a prayer for him.)

The air conditioning has been turned on, and musical mayhem results.  Better learn how to use the filter on my editing software.

Millfest (named after Mill Street) was going on outside the church, so there was a constant din of shouting audible within the church; fortunately, I didn't hear any screams like the ones normally heard on Halloween weekend.  Happily, the rain seemed to help keep events on the calm side.

4th Sunday of Easter - May 15, 2011

Talk about posting music lists at the last minute.  BUSY does not begin to describe my life lately.  I have only 11 credits, and I'm already never home.  After adding up my required credits for next year, I'm horrified to realize that Fall Quarter will be 16 hours.  I have no idea how to reconcile this; if you have ideas, PLEASE give them to me.  On top of that, I was told that the local AGO chapter wants me to be sub-dean next year.  This upside?  If I carry 16 hours each quarter, I'll finally be eligible for that scholarship that the school wanted to give me.  The downside?  They'll have to award it posthumously.

Recordings from 5/7/11

I played three preludes--the first three pieces in the Nicholas de Grigny Ave Maris Stella versets.  I haven't learned the fourth one well enough yet, but will play these versets (alternating with Gregorian chant) for my senior recital.  I forgot to start the recorder for the first verset, but remembered to ask Three to start it before the Fugue.
