What a better way to start the day than with insomnia. After turning in a little early because of a VERY long day, I awoke to the typical nighttime sounds in the house: floors creaking from kids heading to the bathroom. Of course, Mary can't sleep through this because she's a LIGHT SLEEPER. *insert grumbling sound here*
So I lie awake for a while, and then realize, "Why, it must be close to 6:00 and that's why I can't sleep! Better check the time!" I uncover the obnoxiously bright clock and read the bad news:
1:44.
It's gonna be a long day. :)
(I titled this post "Part 1", just in case I have something to complain about later. hehe.)

any other complaints?
I got a compliment from a class mate who was at the noon Mass about the music :)
Yes, MCK, I have more complaints:
1) I used bad grammar in this post. I think it's fixed.
2) .........complaint deleted, because mortification is good for the soul.
I think that's it! It was a decent day overall, and I'm glad to hear that your classmate liked the music.
Hey MCK, do you think most people didn't sing "Have Mercy on Us Lord" because a) it was a chant, or b) there was a procession, and no one likes to sing during a procession, or c) it was c capella?
or d) it was a capella?
I would go with b... it was in English, so chant shouldn't matter. And it's the same thing over and over again, so the c capella and a capella-ness shouldn't matter!
That's what I think at least...
Lent commencing, suffering starts... Still, I hope you get a good night sleep tonight.
Perhaps these lyrics from "Gather Us In" will make you sleepy:
"Gather us in the lost and forsaken
Gather us in the blind and the lame
Call to us now and we shall awaken
We shall arise at the sound of our name"
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Seriously, to help with the sleep - listen to some Perry Como. If not, then Iron Maiden.
I think no one sang because it was "not familiar with them" and it was a procession and it was a capella. But, also because (I'm guessing) most were not regular Mass-goers. So, church singing is somewhat foreign.
BTW, I WONDERED by you signed online last night LATE...
TH2, thanks for the advice. But your cuss-o-meter-raising lyrics just wanted to make me "arise to the sound of my name", so I explored other options. (And next time you're tempted to quote M.H., think about the extra purgatory time you'll incur, okay? *wink*)
I'm sorry to say that Como, Crosby, Sinatra, et al, make me want to pull my hair out. For better or for worse, Iron Maiden is much more to my liking.
Aaaand - I slept last night! Yay!
Mr. Ramen,
When I looked at my Skype page, three of you were still logged on. At 2 a.m. You crazy college kids! Heh.
There were a few people singing the Attende Domine, just not very many. And it really IS hard to sing fake chant notation with English words, so I'll cut them some slack. They sang pretty well on the closing hymn.
I noticed it was mainly the old people who did sing... not many college kids.
And Mary - the party only begins at 1AM! ;)
Mary: I felt kinda bad after issuing that comment, thinking that you would get irked by it. Perhaps I should have be more compassionate, n.b. rare TH2 PC moment :)
You are correct on Purgatory. If by God's mercy I make it, methinks I will spend quite alot of time there. I compensate by saying St. Gertrude the Great's purgatory prayer 3x day.
I agree with you on Como, Crosby, Sinatra - the latter whom I refer to as a "glorified lounge lizard".
Glad you you were able to sleep.
College Kid,
Even back in the stone age when I was in college the first time, I missed all those parties because I'm not a night owl. And it's probably just as well! I always had 8 a.m. classes.
TH2, PLEASE, for the love of humanity, don't get all PC on me. I'm actually amused that you chose my all-time, most-detested song. Keeps me on my toes. :-)
MCK, save me from myself; my grammar "mistake" was indeed correct the first time, then I made it incorrect. Now I'm changing it back. Sigh.
hehe Mary! no worries about the grammar... though, I shouldn't say that because I know it would bother me too! It's like sheeeeeeeesh! ;) But really :)
revealing my college kid identity (and from the time stamp of this comment): Night owl status - CHECK! But I dont like sleeping in much past 9/9:30 ...
