Beautiful, mesmerizing and so reverent. They do not do such compositions at my parish.

TH2, they haven't done it at my church, either.

I've been trying to introduce music like this since I started 1 1/2 years ago. The reward is that we're completely ignored by the parish music director; neither my choir nor I has been asked to participate in the yearly Christmas concert, Holy week liturgies, etc., but the guitarist who played at the Mass prior to me was ALWAYS a part of the team.

It's frustrating, especially since the choir sounds really terrific.

I am sorry you are going through that problem with the music director. My experience is that petty kingdoms are established by such people - and when someone comes along, like you and your choir, with obviously superior, omnipresent and holy music, they feel threatened. Hence you are not recognized. This person sounds like a Marty Haugen fan - 1970s cheezeball hippy crap "compositions". Yes?

At my parish I no longer go to Mass with the "modern music". The last straw for me was when some piece was played that sounded like some gaudy, off-Broadway musical.

Don't get me wrong, I like The Floyd, Rush, etc (minus philosophy behind lyrics), but I think the corny music that has occurred over the last 40 years is in a large part responsible for the decimation of the liturgy.

In my next Rosary I will ask Our Lady to help you out in your current circumstance.

TH2,

Don't feel too sorry for me - the MD isn't really causing me any problems; I seem to be off her radar screen, and that's probably a GOOD thing. But I wish the choir had more opportunities.

And you are quite correct sir -- Haugen for the main course, and Schutte et. al. for the side dishes.

And - heh - Rush was my favorite for about 12 years until supplanted by Dream Theater (minus the philosophy *smile*), which I still play too loudly in the car. But that doesn't mean I don't love my Tallis and Palestrina (and Franck and Messaien, etc.)

I am grateful for your prayers, and will include you in mine as well.

Wow! A female Rush fan! Now I now for sure that you are one cool Catholic chick.

Thanks for your prayers as well. I sure do need them. Big time!
