Offertory: Gospel Canticle (BB 848)
Communion: antiphon
Recessional: The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns (BB 48)
Decent pickings (in Breaking Bread) for Advent are mighty slim. I had to look elsewhere in the book for appropriate songs. This is Gaudete Sunday, and Gaude is Latin for "Rejoice". The reason Sunday is given this name is because the Introit's first word is "Rejoice". There is no song in the Blue Book for this purpose, so I have chosen the Introit from the American Gradual.
Although the Gospel Canticle is listed under Morning Prayer, these are the words:
Blest be the God of Israel who comes to set us free and raises up new hope for us: A Branch for David's tree. So have the prophets long declared that with a mighty arm God would turn back our enemies and all who wish us harm.
With promised mercy will God still the covenant recall, the oath once sworn to Abraham from foes to save us all; that we might worship without fear and offer lives of praise, in holiness and righteousness to serve God all our days.
My child, as prophet of the Lord you will prepare the way, to tell God's people they are saved from sin's eternal sway. Then shall God's mercy from on high shine forth and never cease to drive away the gloom of death and lead us into peace.
Appropriate, no?
I've never heard The King Shall Come When Morning Dawns. But I've learned that our congregation is diverse, since they've come from all over the world, and someone is likely to know the piece.

But...but...

...no pirate song?...
Dearest S.L.P.,
It may be a tiny bit unorthodox, but technically, it could be sung with a piratey accent:
Blest be th' God of Israel who comes ta set us free 'n raises up new hope fer us.
But I don't think it's a good idea.
CBFCOT--
I don't believe the music matches the piratified text in the least...
P.S Where are all these pirates coming from?...

These pirates are a little strange aren't they? I wonder where they keep their computers :)
What? computers? never heard of them. We spring out of rocks in the ground, matey. The Magic Mirrors provide many a view for me piratey friends.
What the ......?
This has just gotten WEIRD.
I need a holiday. A very long holiday. And not in the Caribbean.
But Rachel, the Caribbean is GORGEOUS this time of year. I was in St. Martin and St. Thomas this time a couple years ago- few tourists, except for those on cruises, and the water was the most beautiful shade of blue/green, and crystal clear.
...would you like to vacation in Europe with me instead? I should have my teleporter ready by about... 2082, if you're interested. Of course, by then I'll be old and senile, so you may be reminding me constantly who you are.
